Music

Music at Highams Park School is all about performing, creating and enjoying music together!

Each lesson you will learn to play or sing in a range of musical styles from across the world. There are 2 huge classrooms in the department full of lots of different instruments as well as 5 smaller practice rooms for those of you who have 1-2-1 instrumental lessons. In year 7 topics will include:

Find Your Voice – How to tell stories through song, improving your vocal technique and singing in a range of styles

Rhythm Nation – Reading rhythm notation, creating beats, playing drums and body percussion

Pitch Perfect – Reading pitch notation, instrumental technique and playing keyboards

Composing Music – Playing and writing music that reflects stories, images and moods linked to other art forms.

All year 7s will have 1 timetabled music lesson a week and there are many other opportunities to get involved in music.

These include concerts, choir, orchestra and rock & pop bands. In previous years the school have performed many fabulous whole school musicals. In recent years shows have included School of Rock!, Footloose & Legally Blonde. Whilst our building works take place we hope to continue with some continued collaborations across the school with a welcome return to our big musical shows in the new facilities once they have been completed.
