Drama

Welcome to Drama at Highams Park!

This year you will have 1 Drama lesson per week for the whole year. You will learn to create Drama and to read and perform scripts.

We have a Drama studio with professional lighting and a large dance studio. These spaces mean that you can rehearse and perform your Drama so that it is impressive, high-quality work.

We think you will love Drama! It gives you an opportunity to be creative, expressive and quick-thinking. You have fun working in groups and also get to develop your vocal and physical performance skills, with training from your teacher. You get performance opportunities every lesson and work towards two half-termly assessments, which are usually group performances.

Year 7 Drama you will learn and explore:

1: Introduction to Drama: Learn the basics of theatre performance and build confidence.

2: Greek Theatre. Chorus work. Explore the Greek theatre, stories and style.

3: Commedia Del Arte: Learn and explore the funny Italian art form and stock characters.

4: Hamlet: Explore Shakespeare’s most famous play through script & techniques.

5: Devising: Learn how to use interesting techniques to make your own theatre.

6: A Midsummer Night’s Dream: Explore the characters, comedy and key scenes.

Throughout all the schemes of work, students explore all the vocal and physical skills as well as skills in analysis and evaluation.

Shows

Due to the building work this year, we are participating in National Theatre Connections. Students involved in the project will be performing at the brand-new SOHO Theatre in Walthamstow which is an exciting opportunity.
